Tonight I sat on the couch with my husband and our friend, reading and writing while the two of them played video games.  Not for the first time, it struck me how pointless video games are — I mean, seriously, they’ve got to be killing brain cells left and right!

I also thought about real-life alternatives to these shoot-em-up types of games — for instance, airsoft and paintball.  A lot of proponents of gun control also oppose toy guns like these, because they are so darn realistic — just take a look at the pictures of some Echo1 airsoft guns or KWA guns and you’ll see what I mean.  They are designed to look just like real weapons — in fact, some criminals even try to get smart by using these toys to commit crimes, thinking if they caught they can’t be charged with as serious a crime because the weapons weren’t real (an assumption that is, of course, completely false).

But if you think about it realistically, these guns are still only toys, but they are toys that have the ability to get people off their butts and outside.  Activities such as airsoft and paintball are good exercise, and therefore are much better than violence-promoting, health-ruining video games!
